The Dodge City Red Demons girls golf team turned in a competitive outing on Monday, finishing third at the Liberal High School Invitational held at Willow Tree Golf Course. Dodge City combined for a team score of 401 in the 18-hole varsity event.
Garden City claimed the team championship with a strong total of 337, followed by Hays in second at 370. Dodge City held off host Liberal (458) and Great Bend (470) to secure the third-place finish.
Breckyn Putnam led the way for the Lady Demons, carding an 88 to finish fifth overall individually. Her 16-over performance placed her just outside the top four and kept Dodge City firmly in the hunt in the team standings.
Behind her, Kale Culwell and Alexis Cunningham turned in back-to-back solid scores to help round out the Red Demons’ scoring four. Culwell shot a 99 to take ninth place, while Cunningham finished right behind her in 10th with a 101.
Ivy Harmon added a 113 to finish 18th and contribute critical depth to the varsity lineup. Addison Heeke followed closely, carding a 117 for 19th place.
The remainder of Dodge City’s squad gained valuable tournament experience as well. Malea Chaffin finished with a 126 to place 22nd, giving the Red Demons six golfers in the top 25.
Garden City’s Brooke Savolt claimed medalist honors with a 5-over 77, setting the pace for the champions. Teammates Ailynn Anderson and Breckyn Lucas finished third and fourth, while Hays’ Kinley Pfannenstiel secured runner-up honors with an 82.
