Boys golf takes 3rd in WAC, softball team sweeps Liberal

BOYS GOLF
Just four strokes stood between the Dodge City Red Demon boys golf team and a second place finish at the Western Athletic Conference championship meet on Tuesday in Liberal.
Both the Red Demons and Hays finished with team scores of 311 but the Indians’ fifth score of 83 edged out Dodge City’s of 87.
Dodge City’s Matthew Vogel shot a 74 to earn a third place individual finish. Sophomore Luke Gleason was the second Red Demon to earn an individual medal as his score of 77 was good enough for an eighth place finish.
Gleason was also named to the All-WAC team. Vogel, along with junior Dylan Ratts earned Honorable Mention honors.
The Red Demons will try to earn a trip to the 6A state tournament next Monday at regionals in Garden City.

SOFTBALL
In their final doubleheader of the regular season, the Red Demons scored 36 runs on their way to a sweep over Liberal.
Dodge City (8-12, 2-6) scored eight runs in the top of the seventh inning of game two to beat the Redskins 22-8 in their final game of the season. The Red Demons shutout Liberal in game one as they picked up their first Western Athletic Conference win of the season with a 14-0 win.
