The Dodge City Red Demons girls golf team continued their season in Liberal, Kansas Saturday at the Willow Tree Golf Course.
The team finished fourth overall, and was led by senior Chesney Moore, whose score of 46 placed her in fifth for the tournament and earned her an individual medal.
Red Demons head coach Jim Mapel said he was proud of her and happy with her consistency.
“She’s really done a good job,” Mapel said. “She just is steadily improving and getting more comfortable getting in that position shooting lower scores.”
The team also got strong performances out of sophomore Ella Friess and junior Olivia Gregg, who shot 55’s Saturday. Seniors Madelyn Wright and Taylor Starnes shot 57 and 64 respectively and junior Breanna Galindo shot a 66 to round out the Red Demons’ scorecard.
This week’s tournaments include Wichita North on Wednesday, and Hutchinson on Thursday.
Mapel said he thinks the team has made some real progress the last couple of weeks but the team still has some work to do, especially if it is to accomplish his goal for it, which is to qualify everyone for State.
“I think we’re heading in the right direction,” Mapel said.
