The Dodge City High School girls swimming team raced to some of their best times of the season but the competition at the 6A state meet made it too difficult for a majority of the team to advance to day two.
A career best time by sophomore Amelia Richter in the 100 yard breaststroke earned her a 15th place finish in the finals and the team’s only two points. Richter was the lone Red Demon to make it to the finals on Saturday.
Grace Harvey, Amelia Richter, Hayden Sanchez and Hannah Sowers missed the finals by 0.29 seconds in the 200 medley relay.
The 200 freestyle relay team which included Allysa Bogner, Payton Magouirk, Sanchez and Sowers also raced to their fastest time of the season but finished in 19th place in the preliminary round. In the 100 free, Sowers’ time of 58.36 was her career best but she fell short of reaching the finals by just under three seconds.
Gabby Mendoza, Bogner, Magouirk, and Richter took 20th in the 400 freestyle relay preliminary round.
