The Dodge City High School football team finished their regular season with a 70-34 win over Liberal on Friday night.
Liberal was the first team on the board but after falling behind 7-0, the Red Demons (5-3, 2-2) scored 56 unanswered points to seize control of the game. Senior running back Tylor Garcia sparked the offense with an 80 yard touchdown run on Dodge City’s first play from scrimmage.
Junior quarterback Dawson Williams had touchdown runs of 29 yards, 31 yards and 49 yards to help the Red Demons build a 42-7 halftime cushion.
Liberal found more of a rhythm in the second half. After trailing 56-7, the Redskins outscored the Red Demons 27-14 over the final 20 minutes of the game.
‘I was proud of them the way they played in the first half,’ Dodge City head coach Dave Foster said about his team in his post game radio interview. ‘The second half is always a challenge. I told them at halftime that we can’t let that happen but we’re excited for next week.’
The Red Demons will begin their playoff schedule next Friday.
