The Dodge City Red Demon boys swim team put together a strong, well-rounded performance Thursday night at Salina South, finishing third overall with 374 team points against a deep field that included Hays, Junction City, Salina South, Salina Central, and El Dorado.
Dodge City opened the meet competing hard in the 200-yard Medley Relay, where the Red Demons’ A relay of Jacoby Sutton, Jameson Sutton, Alejandro Guerrero, and Itzaid Ruiz Millan placed fourth with a time of 2:12.84, while the B relay gained valuable experience later in the event.
One of the highlights of the night came from Easton Steiner, who turned in an impressive meet with multiple podium finishes. Steiner placed second in the 200-yard Freestyle (2:02.00) and followed it up with another second-place finish in the 500-yard Freestyle (5:46.10), anchoring the distance events for Dodge City. Steiner also swam the anchor leg on both the 200-yard Freestyle Relay and the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, helping the Red Demons earn critical team points.
In the 200-yard Individual Medley, senior Jordan Schneweis placed fourth (2:34.17), while Jameson Sutton added a seventh-place finish. Schneweis continued his solid night with a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard Butterfly (1:11.49) and helped lead the Red Demons’ A relay to a third-place finish in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay (1:55.24) alongside Christian Chavez, Jameson Sutton, and Steiner.
Sprint events were another strength for Dodge City. Jacoby Sutton placed third in the 100-yard Freestyle (57.33) and added a third-place finish in the 100-yard Backstroke (1:08.33). Alejandro Guerrero contributed points in both the 50-yard Freestyle and 100-yard Butterfly, showing strong freshman effort.
In the 100-yard Breaststroke, Jameson Sutton finished fourth (1:22.43), adding more key points late in the meet. Dodge City closed the night with a strong showing in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, as the A relay of Sutton, Guerrero, Schneweis, and Steiner placed second with a time of 4:13.40, one of the team’s top finishes of the evening.
Overall, the Red Demons displayed depth across events, competitive relay performances, and continued improvement as the season progresses. With multiple top-three finishes and strong contributions from both veterans and younger swimmers, Dodge City continues to establish itself as a contender moving forward.
