Dodge City 1 Olathe East 0 (Friday)
Dodge City 2 Blue Valley 0 (Saturday)
Olathe, KS — The Dodge City High School soccer team travelled to Olathe this past weekend and returned home still undefeated at (15-0) entering the final week of the regular season.
The Red Demons played defending State Champions – Olathe East on Friday night. The Demons and Hawks were scoreless through the first forty minutes. However, Kevin Almendarez struck quickly for the Demons in the second half (assist by Zahit Garibay) and Francisco Solis and the defense took care of the rest as the Demons won (1-0). Dodge City Head Coach Saul Hernandez is now (5-1) versus Olathe East.
On Saturday, Dodge City played a dangerous Blue Valley team who has seemingly played everyone close – including a (1-0) win over Liberal on Friday night. The Red Demons would strike first in the last minute of the first half as Zahit Garibay found the net on an assist from Alejandro Marquez. The Demons would add another goal in the second half from Fabian Pinon to put the game away at (2-0). Once again, Solis and the defense threw a clean sheet at the opponents – the 10th shutout of the season for the Red Demons.
Dodge City now returns to Memorial Stadium for what they hope will be a long stretch of home games – all with a playoff atmosphere. The Red Demons host Liberal (11-3-1) on Thursday night for Legends Night – where the program will be welcoming back all past All-State players to the game. Legends Night posters will be handed out to the first (250) fans in attendance.
Beyond Thursday night’s final regular season game – the Demons hold home pitch advantage through at least the first three rounds of the playoffs. The 6A KSHSAA Soccer Playoffs will begin on Tuesday, October 29th at 6:30p – with the opponent to be determined.
