WRESTLING
In their final dual of the season, the Dodge City High School wrestling team made quick work of Liberal in their 51-13 win.
All but three Red Demons came out victorious on Thursday night.
In the updated Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association rankings, the Red Demons are ranked No. 6 in 6A with five ranked individual wrestlers.
The Red Demons will travel to McPherson this weekend for their final tournament of the regular season before traveling to Hutchinson next Friday for the regional tournament.
BASKETBALL
Demon boys snap skid
The Dodge City High School boys basketball team (3-12) snapped an eight-game losing steak on Friday night with a 56-54 win over Nickerson.
In the final minute of the game it was sophomore Adrian Mendoza who helped bring home the win by knocking down four free throws in the final 23 seconds of the game. Mendoza scored a season-high 16 points on 4-of-5 shooting from both the 3-point line and free throw line.
Junior Hunter Heath had another impressive outing as he finished with 25 points and 8 rebounds. Sophomore guard Noah Sowers added 11 points and eight rebounds.
The Dodge City High School girls suffered their second narrow defeat of the week on Friday night.
The Red Demon fell 42-36 to drop to 4-11 on the season. After falling behind 38-25, Dodge City outscored the Panthers 11-4 down the stretch. Seniors Tia Bradshaw and Reiyna Cecil led the team with 14 points and 12 points, respectively.
Both Dodge City teams will have a quick turnaround as they host Manhattan on Saturday afternoon at the Dodge City High School field house.
