The Dodge City High School Athletic Department has announced that Glenn O’Neil has accepted the position of Head Football Coach at Dodge City High School – pending BOE approval at the next scheduled meeting.
Coach O’Neil has western Kansas ties as he led Scott City to the 2012 (3A) State Football Championship and a runner-up finish in 2014. O’Neil left Scott City after the 2015 season to take over at Topeka Seaman (5A) where he was named the Centennial League Coach of the Year after both the 2016 and 2020 seasons. His career record is 123-36 in fourteen seasons as a head football coach. He also led Scott City to five State Basketball Championships as Head Basketball Coach for the Beavers.
Coach O’Neil also has basketball and family ties to Dodge City as he twice coached the Scott City Beavers in the Tournament of Champions. His son, Brett, played basketball at Dodge City Community College and his youngest son Trey is currently a football and basketball coach at Hays High.
It is with great excitement that my wife and I are making the journey back to southwest Kansas. The challenge of coaching in the Western Athletic Conference with its history and reputation for excellence was definitely a draw. The facilities, reputation, and leadership in Dodge City makes this a great fit for success. I am looking forward to the challenges ahead and joining forces with the coaching staff and the players to continue building upon and carrying out the rich tradition of Dodge City High School Red Demon Football.

Coach O’Neil was offered the position after an extensive screening and interview process that concluded with five finalists – all with head coaching experience. Glenn and his wife, Jenny, have three grown children who are also in the coaching profession.
Our leadership team identified key character traits we desired in the candidate selected for this important position. His vision for the program, our student- athletes, and as a member of the Head Coaching staff is very similar to many of the other successful individuals in the department. It is obvious how successful Coach O’Neil has been on the field (and court), but we were most impressed with the relationships he continues to have with his current and former players and coaches. The Athletic Department and Administration of Dodge City High School are proud to once again attract such experienced talent to an already excellent teaching staff.
