Tuesday night was a Spirit Sock Giveaway for Dodge City fans. And not only were the socks a hit – the Lady Demons put on a show lighting up the scoreboard for a 53-16 win over visiting Ulysses.
The Lady Demons found their shooting touch on Tuesday night and it propels them into the Christmas break with good vibes after a tough shooting streak against Wichita Northwest last Saturday.
Ashlyn Lembright kick-started the game for the Lady Demons hitting back to back three-pointers in the first quarter. The Tigers responded to keep things close early, but Emily Gutierrez nailed a three-pointer, highlighting a barrage of points as the Lady Demons hit 6 of their first 7 shots from behind the arc.
The first quarter concluded with Lady Demons holding a significant lead of 16-7.
As the game progressed into the second quarter, the Lady Demons continued to dominate. Lembright and Easha Potts showcased their scoring abilities, extending the lead with well-timed three-pointers and layups. The Tigers struggled to break through the Lady Demons’ defense, facing turnovers and challenges in scoring.
By halftime, Lady Demons had built a substantial lead of 33-14. The Lady Demons finished the half with a field goal percentage of 63.6%.
The third quarter witnessed Lady Demons further asserting their dominance. Potts led the team hitting her free throws and adding some high percentage layups, while the defense continued to stifle the Tigers’ offensive attempts. The Lady Demons’ lead expanded to an impressive 48-14 by the end of the quarter.
In the final quarter, the Lady Demons showcased their depth as the bench players contributed significantly to the final score.
The Lady Demons’ head into the break at (2-4) and will not return to action until January 3rd at home against Garden Plain. Potts finished the game with a team-high 19 points, while Freshman Emily Gutierrez set a career high with 16 points.
