On a night when Head Coach Kelley Snodgrass would place her name at the top of the all-time win list for Lady Demon Basketball, it was fitting that her 103rd win came in what could be accurately described as a total team effort. Eight players scored for the Lady Demons while every player found meaningful minutes in what turned out to be a semifinal game against Manhattan on the last day of pool play at the McPherson Tournament.
The Lady Demons once again started fast and never let Manhattan back in the game with a suffocating defense that led to (18) turnovers and held the Lady Indians to 14 points through three quarters. Manhattan (5-4) failed to score in double digits in any quarter as the Lady Demons (11-0) advanced to the title game by a final score of 43-21.
The Lady Demons dominated from the beginning. Kisa Unruh (10 points) and Camree Johnson (11 points) both hit early shots and by the time Lauren Gleason hit her first of two 3-pointers on the night to start the second quarter Manhattan seemed to feel the pressure on every possession. Back to back three pointers pushed the lead to 12 and the Lady Demons led at halftime by a score of (23-9).
I was so impressed with our defensive intensity. We played great defense and found the open shot when Manhattan forced us to run our offense. Winning the battle of the boards when we were so outsized showed our heart and determination. Tomorrow night will be a fun environment and another tough challenge against an elite program.
