Red Demon Football Head Coach Dave Foster has stepped down after eleven years at DCHS to accept a similar position in Oklahoma – where he coached before coming to Dodge City in 2010.
Foster will leave Dodge City with the third most wins all-time as a Head Football Coach, passing legendary JC Riekenberg this past fall. Besides leading the football program, Foster coached several state champion track athletes, and conference & regional winning track teams. He will continue in that role through the spring.
One of Foster’s greatest contributions was his coordinating of the strength and conditioning program that focused on not just football, but every athlete at Dodge City High School. During his tenure the program grew from two instructors to four instructors. The overall success of the athletic department is in large part to the vision and direction of Foster in this area.
Coach Foster made an immediate impact on Dodge City upon his arrival in 2010. In his first season the Red Demons advanced to the State semifinals losing in the final seconds on a controversial call. The 2010 team tied the school record for wins and established what would be a very successful eleven year run for Red Demon Football. In 2019 the Red Demons would once again go undefeated in the regular season with Dave’s son Beau Foster leading the way.
Dave Foster greatly expanded the opportunities we were able to offer our students in their Physical Education classes during his tenure at Dodge City High School. He initiated the grant opportunities for Demon Lake, Fishing & Archery in Schools Program, Air Rifle and Hunter Safety Programs, as well as our Outdoor Club which includes numerous opportunities for our students to learn and compete outside of school. With each of the programs, our Physical Education teachers were able to provide learning experiences our students may not have had otherwise. We certainly appreciate all Dave and his family have contributed to the students of DCHS over the past eleven years.

I am thankful for the opportunity to teach and coach the great students of DCHS. Every decision and drop of sweat was out of respect for the tradition of Dodge City. From coaching football and track to creating the greatest high school campus imaginable I have enjoyed the challenge and appreciate the support of everyone involved in making a positive impact on kids. It is time for my family to shift gears to a new challenge and I am thankful for my 11 years in Dodge City.

Foster leaves Dodge City with an overall 60-47 record, and was named the WAC Coach of the Year four times. He coached in the 2019 Shrine Bowl, and has coached eight different Shrine Bowl participants from Dodge City.
