The Red Demons (3-2, 2-0) have surrendered just seven total points in their first two games of WAC play. This week, Dodge City will host Hays (2-3, 1-2) and head coach Dave Foster is expecting the Indians to throw a lot of different looks towards his improved defense.
“Our defense has certainly played better,” Foster said. “We’ve tackled better, we’ve spent more time in our base (defense). This week provides a unique challenge because what (Hays) wants to do with those two tight ends and three (running) backs is force cornerbacks to get involved in the run game who are traditionally not. That will require a lot of discipline from our guys.”
One of the keys to Dodge City’s defense this season has been players like Dayton McGroarty, Mark Adams, Eric Reid and Armando Sosa who are playing almost every snap on both sides of the ball for the Red Demons.
