The Dodge City High School boys and girls basketball teams will look to bounce back from tough midweek losses when they travel to Liberal on Tuesday.
The Red Demon girls (5-3, 1-0) fought back from a 19-point halftime deficit to outscore the Oilers in the second half before ultimately falling 55-45.
In their WAC opener, Dodge City had an impressive 72-31 victory at Great Bend. The Lady Redskins are 6-2 and 2-0 inWACplaycomingoffof their 38-31 win at Garden City.
In their two meetings last season, the Red Demons beat Liberal by an average of almost 18 points per game.
The Dodge City boys (4-4, 1-0) will look to bounce back from their worst loss of the season.
Liberal responded from a 55-54 loss to Hays in its WACopenerwitha67-64 double-overtime win at Garden City.
Thetwoteamseachwon their home game against the other last season. The Red Demons took the first game 55-46 before falling 58-57 in their final game of WAC play last season.
Liberal is 4-0 at home this season. The Redskins are led by a trio of juniors who are each averaging over 10 points per game this season.
Deladris Green leads the team with a 15.1 point per game average. Just behind him is Kylan Thomas who is averaging 11 points and Cade Hinkle, averaging 10.5 points per contest.
“Their speed on the perimeter is as good as we will see in the conference,” Dodge City head coach Dennis Hamilton said. “Cade Hinkle can shoot as well as anyone in the conference. They are a very sound basketball team. We’ll need to pick it up a notch.”
The girls are scheduled to tipoff off at 6 p.m. with the boys following them at Liberal High School.
