The Dodge City High School Red Demons will travel to Great Bend to take on the Panthers Friday night for Homecoming at Panther Stadium. Dodge City opened WAC play last Friday night, defeating Liberal (69-0), while Great Bend (3-1, 1-1) defeated Wichita North, (23-12). In the other WAC contest this week, Liberal (1-3, 0-2) will play Garden City (4-0, 2-0) – who beat Hays by a score of 38-14, last Friday night. Dodge City and Garden City are the only two undefeated teams in the WAC. Dodge City (2-2, 1-0) will host Hays in week six, before entering District play versus Wichita Northwest, in week 7.
Series History
The Red Demons have faced the Panthers (87) times, dating back to the 1907 season. The series is led by the Demons 55-30-2. The Red Demons won last year’s contest by a score of 28-21.
Dodge City had not won a game at Panther Stadium since 1999, until the Demon victory in 2013 over the Panthers. The teams have played in consecutive seasons beginning with the 1942 season, a 37-0 Red Demon victory. The Demons have played the Panthers more than any other school on their schedule, besides Garden City (116) and Liberal (89).
Until this season, the Red Demons had never scored 40 or more points in their first four games of a season. The Demons are currently averaging just under 53 points per game, while the Panther defense is giving up just 21.5 points per game. The Panther offense has scored over 40 in two of its first four games of the season.
