Cross Country teams endure busy week as season draws down

It was a busy week for the Dodge City Red Demons cross country teams.
On Thursday, both teams ran at Lake Afton Park in Goddard, Kansas at the Goddard Invitational.
The girls finished third with 83 points. Ayanna Hensley finished eighth with a time of 23:05, Luz Lopez finished ninth with a time of 23:07 and Caroline Williams finished 21st with a time of 25:19.
Here are times and placings for the other runners on the girls team: – Lucy Lozano finished in 23rd place with a time of 25:32- Lizeth Diego finished in 28th with a time of 26:50- Ely Dorado finished 35th with a time of 27:25- Shahira Sanchez finished 45th with a time of 29:31 Girls varsity cross country coach Brian Lenz said the team is seeing improvement, especially from the younger runners on the team.
On the boys’ side, the varsity team finished 12th. Boys varsity head coach Buc Bolmer said five members of the junior varsity team stepped up and ran the varsity race.
The boys team was led by Adrian Guevara, who finished 38th with a time of 21:16.
Following him up were: – Eduardo Hernandez, who finished 49th with a time of 21:55 Gerrado Ramirez, who finished 60th with a time of 22:55- Robert Cavin who finished 64th with a timeof23:10-andMiguelMolina, who finished 71st with a time of 24:44.
For the boys team, however, Thursday was just one of the races on the schedule. The boys varsity team also competed in the Rim Rock Classic, which took place Saturday in Lawrence, Kansas. It was a big meet, with 46 teams
competing. Bolmer said it was a good experience for the runners. “I am proud of the effort they put into the race, ”Bolmer said via email. Overall, the team finished 13th.
Javier Marquez finished first for the Red Demons, finishing 24th overall in a time of 17:21. Jesus Solis finished 80th in a time of 18:05. Other members of the team finished as follows: -Giovanni Valverde finished in 98th place in a time of 18:14-Israel Rojas finished 105th, with a time of 18:17- Quest Weller finished 160th,in18:48-Jair Martinez finished 206th, in 19:17-and finally, Ivan Ortiz finished 303rd,in a time of 21:01.
