Dodge City defeats Eisenhower for best finish at TOC since 2011

The Dodge City Red Demons faced the Goddard Eisenhower Tigers for the third-place game in the Tournament of Champions on Saturday afternoon in the DCHS Fieldhouse. After just a one-point lead at the half, the Red Demons slowly pulled away from the Tigers. In the second half, Dodge City shot 50% from the three-point range, while Goddard Eisenhower shot 10.5%. The Red Demons beat the Tigers 50-37, giving Dodge City the third-place title.
Cooper Scheck led the Red Demons with 14 points, followed by Isaiah Taylor with nine and Aiden Sowers with seven. Goddard Eisenhower’s Nick Hogan led his team with a 19 point and 22 rebounds for the double-double, but it proved not enough to overcome the Demons balanced attack.
Dodge City’s win over Goddard Eisenhower put the Red Demons overall record at (7-4) on the season. This is the Red Demons’ best finish in the Tournament of Champions since 2011.
Bishop Carroll dominates Junction City in TOC Final

The Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles played the Junction City Bluejays in the championship game of the Tournament of Champions on Saturday afternoon at the DCHS Fieldhouse. At the half, Bishop Carroll held a 12 point lead over Junction City, shooting 50% from three-point range. The Golden Eagles held the lead throughout the rest of the game, finishing with a final score of 61-46 over the Bluejays.
Bishop Carroll’s defense seemed to be the deciding factor in the game, with the Golden Eagles getting over 80% of their defensive rebounds, as well as 31 defensive stops to Junction City’s 23.
Alex Littlejohn led bishop Carroll with 20 points and a shooting percentage of 87.5% from the free-throw line. Next was Carter Reid with 11 points and a double-double by Preston Rottinghaus with ten points and ten rebounds. Chris Dixon led the scoring for Junction City with 23 points. David Rowell led the Bluejays in rebounds with five total.
Bishop Carroll has won the Tournament of Champions in both of its last two appearances. The tournament victory also extended the Golden Eagles win streak to seven.
Demons fall short to Bluejays in TOC Semifinals

The Dodge City Demons played the Junction City Bluejays in the second semifinal game on Thursday night at the DCHS Fieldhouse.
Junior Aidan Sowers got the Demons going with a three point shot from the left side of the arc – his first of two 3-pointers for the game. The Red Demons trailed at the half by a score of Dodge City 16 and Junction City 21.
Junior Cooper Scheck got the second half going with a three point shot at the top of the key drawing Dodge City within two points. Dodge City came back strong in the fourth quarter tying the game to 40 with five minutes left before the Bluejays went on a (7-0) run to push the game out of reach. Matt Friess hit a three at the buzzer, but the Demons fell short by a final score of 52 – 48.
Matt Friess and Dawson Taylor led the team in points with 13 and 12, respectively. This puts the Red Demons at 6-4 on the season. The Demons will face Goddard Eisenhower on Saturday at 1:00pm for third place.
Tichenor selected to All-Time All-Tournament Team
Todd Tichenor is a current Major League Baseball umpire and former Tournament of Champions official. He was promoted to the MLB umpiring staff full time for the 2012 season.
He was selected to umpire the 2020 World Series, and has worked the American League and National League playoffs for the past seven seasons. Todd also umpired in the 2014 All-Star Game in Minneapolis, was the right field umpire for the 2014 AL Wild Card Game in Kansas City, and worked the 2017 World Baseball Classic. His first Major League game was June 8, 2007 at Dodger Stadium.
Todd last attended the TOC as a fan in (2017) – supporting his son’s Holcomb team as they won the TOC in OT versusDerby.
