TOC Just One Week Away!

The 83rd Annual Tournament of Champions (TOC) — presented by CommonSpirit — is just one week away! The top seven seeds in this year’s tournament boast a combined record of 51–14, with each team entering with at least six wins.

Tournament tickets are on sale now at the United Wireless Box Office.

The TOC | FCA Breakfast will be held Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. in the Dodge City High School Auditorium and will feature Ryan Schadler as the guest speaker. Tickets are $10 at the door and are FREE for all DCHS students and TOC teams, courtesy of Sunflower Bank.

DCHS Student TOC Tickets will go on sale Friday, January 16, in the DCHS Athletic Office. Student tickets ($20) include:

  • • Admission to ALL TOC games
  • • An official TOC t-shirt, courtesy of Vierthaler Kessen Optometry
  • • Early release from 5th block on Thursday and Friday to attend afternoon session games

Scooters will once again sponsor half-court shot contests during the late games on Thursday and Friday, as well as all games on Saturday.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the 83rd Annual TOC, and especially on Saturday night as we celebrate the 1,000th game in TOC history!

The 82nd Annual TOC – presented by Common Spirit is one week away! The top 5-seeds in this year’s tournament enter with a combined record of 33-3, and include three unbeaten teams. Tickets for the tournament are on sale now at the United Wireless Box Office.

The TOC | FCA Special Event will take place on Friday Night at 10p at the DCHS Fieldhouse. The event will feature world famous illusionist – Harris III. Tickets ($10) will be available at the door – and is FREE for all DCHS Students and TOC Teams – courtesy of Sunflower Bank.

DCHS Student Tickets will go on sale Thursday (01/16) in the DCHS Athletic Office.  Students will receive a ticket to ALL TOC games; an official TOC jersey – courtesy of Vierthaler Kessen Optometry; a mini-TOC basketball (numbered for a shot at the $1k half-court shots); and students will be released from 5th block on Thursday & Friday to attend the afternoon session games. Tickets are $15.

On Saturday night, The Tournament will be celebrating the 1,000th game in tournament history. The tournament committee has invited back all former TOC Girls for a reception at 2:30p. All former DCHS TOC Tournament Championship teams have been invited back and will be recognized before the Championship game at 6p. The final $1k halfcourt shot (sponsored by Scooter’s Coffee) will also take place at halftime of the Championship Game.

2024 TOC Day 1 Recap

The opening act of the 81st annual TOC proved to be an exciting day.  The curtain closed on the First Act after a buzzer beating 3-pointer by Manhattan’s Landon Knopp in the second overtime to overcome Olathe East and send the Indians to the tournament semifinals.  Day Two is now set for another outstanding series of matchups.

Game One:  Wichita Height 78 – Goddard Eisenhower 38

The #1 ranked Falcons were challenged early – leading by only eight at the end of the first period.  However, a 32-11 third period put the game out of reach and allowed the Falcons to clear the bench for the final period.  Wichita State signee TJ Williams led all scorers with a game high 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists in the lopsided victory.  Heights moves on to play Maize in the semifinals on Friday night.

Game Two:  Wichita East 59 – Campus 58

In the upset of the day, Wichita East overcame a five-point deficit in the final period to advance to the semifinals against Manhattan on Friday afternoon.  Manuel Martinez hit two clutch free throws with 4.5 seconds left on the clock to complete the comeback.  Martinez led the Blue Aces in scoring with 22 points.  A last second deflection sent Campus to the consolation bracket.  The Colts were led by Drake signee Andrell Burton who finished with a game high 24 points.  The fourth period alone featured five lead changes and four ties.

Game Three:  Maize 44 – Dodge City 36

In a game featuring the host team, Maize went on a 7-0 run in the fourth quarter to advance to the tournament semifinals to be played on Friday night.  The game was tied at 29-29 entering the fourth quarter and remained tied (34-34) until the 4:22 mark of the game.  However, the Red Demons would not score again until the Maize lead had ballooned to (41-34).  The game featured seven lead changes and five ties.  Dodge City was led by Tochi Okoro with 11 points, while Charles Sharp led Maize with a game high 18 points on 8 of 9 shooting.  Dodge City will play Eisenhower at 6p in the first game of the night session on Friday night. 

Game Four:  Manhattan 70 – Olathe East 68

The 81st annual TOC saved its most exciting game of the first round for last on Thursday night.  How close was this game?  The nightcap featured fifteen lead changes and eight ties.  Olathe East led by one point at the end of the third period (32-31), and the game was tied at the end of regulation (51-51) and the end of the first overtime (58-58).  Only a long range three pointer by Manhattan’s Landon Knopp ended the first night of action as his long range bomb as time expired propelled the Indians into a Friday afternoon semifinal match up against Wichita East.  Knopp’s dagger spoiled an outstanding individual effort by Micah Deaver of Olathe East who finished with a game high 33 points.  Manhattan finished with a balanced scoring attack as Asher Newcomer finished with a team high 16 points, while his teammates Ian McNabb and Landon Knopp each finished with 15 points.   Olathe East plays Campus on Friday afternoon while Manhattan will continue its quest for their first TOC Championship since 1973.

Dodge City High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and the TOC are excited to announce Ty Zimmerman as the 43rd Annual FCA Breakfast speaker for the 81st Annual TOC.

Ty Zimmerman is currently FCA’s Area Director serving North Central Kansas.

As a graduate of Junction City High School, Ty played football for Kansas State University from 2010-2013 and had a short stint with the New Orleans Saints in 2014. After his playing career ended, he stayed in the world of sports, teaching and coaching in Junction City.

His father, Randall Zimmerman, has been the head football coach at Junction City for the past thirty years. It was during this time that he truly began a relationship with Jesus, and began to have a desire towards full time ministry.

God led me to FCA, where I get to merge my background in athletics and my newfound life with Jesus in such a cool way. It’s a great joy to know and follow Jesus, and an even greater joy to see other people come to know and follow Jesus. FCA gives me a platform for that!”

Ty travels the state of Kansas encouraging high school students with his personal testimony and the good news message of hope and purpose.

Ty married his high school sweetheart, Mandy. They have two children: Brinley, and Ezra. The Zimmermans love spending time together as a family, having random dance sessions in their living room, and being outside in God’s beautiful creation.

Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door the morning of the event.

The Boot Hill FCA exists solely to help provide an inspirational program and breakfast for the teams competing in the Tournament of Champions.

For over 40 years, the FCA Breakfast has been part of the tradition of the TOC. On top of the generous support of Sunflower Bank, this organization relies on donations from local businesses and individuals to keep the breakfast free of charge for the teams competing in the tournament each year.

81st Annual Tournament of Champions

Day 1 Recap

The longest running high school invitational boys’ basketball tournament west of the Mississippi is back for year 81! The Tournament of Champions has aged well with a lot of great basketball played in Dodge City over the past eighty years.

This year’s tournament will follow the normal Thursday through Saturday format. Games will begin on Thursday with Dodge City tipping off against Maize at 7p. On Saturday, the Championship game will tip off at 5p. All games will be played at the United Wireless Arena.

Another T.O.C. tradition that will return this year is the FCA Breakfast – held on Saturday morning at 8:30am at Dodge City High School. This year’s speaker is former All-American from Kansas State University – Ty Zimmerman. Tickets will be available at the door – the morning of the event.

The Dodge City Pep Band, Drill Team, and Cheerleaders will perform at all Dodge City games with special performances throughout the tournament. The National Anthem will be performed by DCHS students before each session.

Centura | CommonSpirit – St. Catherine Hospital of Dodge City continues to be the Official Tournament Sponsor and will participate in the Championship Trophy presentation on Saturday night.

Other awards include: medals presented to Top 3 Teams, Sportsmanship medals – presented by the Lions Club, All-Tournament Basketball Team – presented by DCHS Alumni Association, Most Inspirational Player – presented by DCHS, and All-Academic Awards – presented by the Rotary Club.
