The Dodge City High School football program will travel to Wichita this Friday night as the Red Demons meet the Pioneers at the Wichita Northwest Stadium.

• This will be the 21st meeting all-time between the two schools.
• The Red Demons first played the Pioneers in 1976, a game won by West (20-7).
• The Red Demons and Pioneers are tied for the longest streak in the series at five, with the Demons winning consecutive games from 1977-1992 and the Pioneers winning consecutive games from 1993-2001.
• The Red Demons are 2-3 in the last five games versus the Pioneers.
• The Red Demons and Pioneers will continue their current series with the game moving to Opening Week of the 2020 season.
• West Head Coach Weston Schartz played football and graduated from St. Mary of the Plains College (class of 1983).

It was a tale of two halves when the Dodge City Red Demons played host to the Great Bend Panthers, with Dodge dominating the first half and Great Bend dominating the second.

In the end, the Demons prevailed, even after deliberately taking points off the scoreboard, and recorded a 24-21 victory over the Panthers on Friday.

Red Demons coach Dave Foster said he knew Great Bend would present a lot of issues, but the Demons prevented those issues in the first half.

The Demons created turnovers, had a short field after a turnover and had a fake punt that led to the first Demons score.

The Demons rode some early momentum to a 14-0 lead, producing one drive of nine plays for 69 yards and another of 13 plays and 67 yards.

The Dodge City High School football program will host Great Bend this Friday night as the Red Demons meet the Panthers at Memorial Stadium.

• This will be the 92nd meeting all-time between the two schools, dating back to the1907 season.
• The teams have met in consecutive seasons beginning with the 1942 season, a 37-0 Red Demon victory.
• The Red Demons hold the longest streak in the series (11), winning consecutive games from 1984-1994. Great Bend currently owns a three-game winning streak over theDemons, with the last DC win coming in 2015 (51-7).
• Great Bend suffered their first loss of the season last week versus No. 2-ranked (5A) Wichita Northwest. Dodge City remains the only unbeaten team in the WAC, while Garden City is the only WAC team still looking for a victory as they travel to Hays on Friday.

Points left on the field and a Dodge City team that refused to give up resulted in an overtime win for the Demons over the Wichita Heights Falcons, 26-23.

Defense kept both teams scoring to just one touchdown apiece in the first half with Dodge holding a one-point lead at halftime after stopping the Falcons when they tried for a two-point PAT.

Dodge kept the lead with a field goal in the third quarter, but Heights answered with a touchdown to leave the Demons down 13-10 at the end of the third.

Each team scored a touchdown in the fourth, then Dodge tied the game with a Jose Valverde 49-yard field goal with about a minute and half to go.

The Dodge defense came out strong in overtime and held Heights to a field goal while the Demons scored a touchdown for a final score of Dodge City 26, Heights 23.

• The teams have met 13 times in the regular season and twice in the post-season,with Heights taking both playoff victories.
• Heights has played one of the tougher schedules to open the 2019 campaign, losing to Maize South in Week one and Bishop Carroll in week two.
• This is the last meeting for the Falcons and Red Demons in the current series. The teams have played for eight consecutive seasons. Dodge City will play Wichita South next year in week three and Bishop Carroll in week four.
• Next week is Homecoming Week for the Red Demons as they welcome undefeatedGreat Bend to Memorial Stadium to open Western Athletic Conference play.
