Red Demons Roll Past Guymon, Improve to 10-9 on the Season
The Dodge City High School Red Demons delivered one of their most complete performances of the season Thursday night, defeating the Guymon High School Tigers 73-47 to move to 10-9 on the year.
From the opening tip, Dodge City set the tone with energy, pace and defensive pressure. The Red Demons jumped out to a 22-12 first-quarter lead and never looked back, building a 42-28 advantage by halftime. A dominant third quarter — outscoring Guymon 20-8 — put the game out of reach.
The Red Demons’ offensive balance and defensive intensity were the difference. Dodge City forced 20 turnovers and converted them into 25 points, while also holding Guymon to just 28.6 percent shooting in the second half.
Cru Lembright sparked the offense with 18 points, knocking down five three-pointers and finishing a perfect 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. His perimeter shooting stretched Guymon’s defense early and created space for the Red Demons to attack.

Ty Scheck added 13 points and went 6-of-7 at the free-throw line, while Tyler Presley provided an efficient 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting in limited minutes.
Reis Ochs filled the stat sheet with eight points, nine rebounds and six assists, helping Dodge City control the tempo and dominate the glass. The Red Demons outrebounded Guymon 37-30 and held an 80.6 percent defensive rebounding rate.
Depth played a major role in the win. Dodge City’s bench outscored Guymon’s reserves 29-13, highlighted by six points each from Yaasir Mohammed and Rase Smith, along with five from Dominik Woods.
The Red Demons were also efficient at the free-throw line, converting 19-of-24 attempts (79.2 percent). That aggressiveness attacking the rim helped build a 19-5 advantage in free-throw points.
Guymon was led by Love with 25 points, but Dodge City limited supporting production and consistently disrupted the Tigers’ offensive flow.
Dodge City finished with 19 assists on 23 made field goals, showing strong ball movement and unselfish play. The Red Demons also posted a 1.12 points-per-possession mark, a sign of offensive efficiency that has been building in recent weeks.
After hovering around .500 for much of the season, the Red Demons now sit at 10-9 with momentum heading into the stretch run. If they continue to defend, share the basketball and capitalize at the free-throw line like they did Thursday night, they’ll be a tough matchup for anyone down the stretch.
Lady Demons Split Week with Road Win at Great Bend, Home Loss to Guymon
The Dodge City High School Lady Demons went 1-1 this week, earning a hard-fought road victory over Great Bend High School before falling at home to the Guymon High School Lady Tigers.
The two games told very different stories — one defined by defensive control and timely shooting, the other by turnovers and missed opportunities.
Dodge City 47, Great Bend 41
February 10 – Great Bend
Dodge City opened strong and never fully relinquished control, building a 16-4 lead after the first quarter on the road. That fast start proved crucial in a 47-41 win.
The Lady Demons shot 43.5 percent in the first half and knocked down four three-pointers before halftime. Though their shooting cooled in the second half (22.2 percent), they made enough plays defensively to close it out.
Emma Bell and Emily Gutierrez led the way with 11 points each. Bell added eight rebounds and six assists in a well-rounded performance, while Gutierrez connected on three three-pointers.
Addisyn Taylor contributed nine points and eight rebounds, while Piper Mellinger added seven points and five boards. Dodge City finished 4-of-11 from three-point range and converted 11-of-18 free throws.
The Lady Demons matched Great Bend on the glass with 39 rebounds apiece and held the Panthers to just 31.4 percent shooting overall. Great Bend scored 48 points in the paint, but Dodge City’s perimeter efficiency and first-quarter surge made the difference.
Guymon 42, Dodge City 34
February 12 – Dodge City
Two nights later, the Lady Demons couldn’t generate enough offense in a 42-34 loss to Guymon.

The game was tight throughout, with only one lead change and two ties. Guymon used a 15-3 run to seize momentum and held Dodge City to just 34 points on 37.5 percent shooting.
Piper Mellinger led Dodge City with 13 points on an efficient 6-of-11 shooting night. Emma Bell added 10 points and seven rebounds but struggled at the free-throw line, going 6-of-14.
Turnovers proved costly for Dodge City in a tight contest. Despite winning the rebounding battle 37-28 and holding a higher effective field goal percentage, the Lady Demons couldn’t overcome the possession deficit.
The Lady Demons drop to 8-11 on the season and will face rival Garden City on February 17th at Garden City.
Red Demons Finish Third in Tight WAC Championship Battle
The Dodge City High School boys swim team delivered a determined performance at the Western Athletic Conference Championships on February 12 in Great Bend, finishing third overall with 419 points in one of the closest finishes of the meet.
Dodge City trailed second-place Garden City High School by just three points, while Hays High School claimed the team title with 523 points. Host Great Bend High School finished fourth, followed by Liberal High School in fifth.

The Red Demons relied on balanced scoring, strong relay swims and record-breaking individual performances to stay in contention throughout the evening.
Dodge City opened the meet with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Jacoby Sutton, Jameson Sutton, Jordan Schneweis and Easton Steiner touched the wall in 1:57.79, setting the tone for the night.
Steiner turned in one of the most historic performances in program history. He placed third in the 200-yard freestyle with a state consideration time of 1:58.98, breaking the previous school record of 2:01.82 set by Allen Richter. Steiner’s swim marked the first time a Dodge City swimmer has gone under the two-minute mark in the event.
He followed that performance with another record-breaking and state consideration time swim in the 500 freestyle, finishing second in 5:31.00. In doing so, he surpassed Richter’s former school record of 5:35.87, rewriting the record board in both distance freestyle events in the same meet.
Jacoby Sutton added valuable points in the sprint and backstroke events. He finished second in the 50 freestyle in 24.19 and placed second in the 100 backstroke at 1:04.71. Sutton also anchored two relays, including the 400 freestyle relay that closed the meet.
Jordan Schneweis had one of the most impressive swims of the night finishing third-place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:28.06) and added points in the 100 butterfly. Jameson Sutton also scored in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke while swimming on two relays.
The Red Demons ended the night strong in the 400 freestyle relay. Jacoby Sutton, Easton Steiner, Alejandro Guerrero and Jameson Sutton combined for a second-place finish in 3:57.38, that helped Dodge City secure its third-place finish.
Additional scoring swims from Alejandro Guerrero, Kylan Beers, Itzaid Ruiz Millan, Andrew Kimball, Angel Mendez Perez, Mateo Marin Vera and Christian Chavez highlighted the team’s depth. In a championship meet where every place matters, those points proved essential.
Dodge City’s third-place finish underscores how competitive the WAC remains. More importantly, Steiner’s double school-record performance signals a new standard for the program. With momentum building and confidence rising, the Red Demons now turn their focus to postseason competition, aiming to carry this breakthrough performance into the next stage of the season.
