The Dodge City Lady Demons girls basketball team completed a busy week with three games at the Civic Center, posting a 2–1 record and moving to 4–4 overall on the season. The week featured two strong wins over Cimarron and Kingman before closing with a tough loss to a physical Garden Plain squad.
Dodge City opened the week on January 2 with a 52–30 win over Cimarron, setting the tone with defense and balanced scoring. The Lady Demons jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, holding Cimarron to just four points in the fourth quarter. Dodge City shot efficiently from the perimeter and controlled the boards, finishing with a 42–35 rebounding advantage. Piper Mellinger recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Addisyn Taylor and Kale Culwell each added 13 points. Defensively, the Lady Demons limited Cimarron to just 15.6 percent shooting for the game.
The Lady Demons followed with a 45–34 victory over Kingman on January 3, again relying on defense, depth, and free-throw production. Dodge City led 19–10 after the first quarter and maintained control throughout. Emily Gutierrez led the scoring with 16 points, while Addisyn Taylor added 13 points. Dodge City scored 28 points off turnovers and received a strong lift from the bench, which outscored Kingman’s reserves 23–4.
Dodge City closed the week on January 6 against Garden Plain, falling 61–42 to a deep and aggressive Lady Owls team. Garden Plain used rebounding and inside scoring to build a halftime lead and extend it in the second half. The Lady Demons were led by Piper Mellinger with 12 points and Emily Gutierrez with 10 points, while continuing to compete despite being out-rebounded. The game provided another opportunity for Dodge City to gain experience against a quality opponent.
Overall, the Lady Demons showed progress throughout the week, particularly on the defensive end and in their ability to get contributions from multiple players. With a 4–4 record, Dodge City continues to build consistency and momentum as the season moves forward.
