Reid Selected to Shrine Bowl

Dodge City High School is proud to congratulate Eric Reid on his selection to the 43rd annual Kansas Shrine Bowl. This year’s contest will take place July 30, on the campus of Emporia State University. Eric is the 28th Red Demon player all-time to be selected to play in this prestigious contest.

Besides 28 former Red Demons being selected to the contest, Head Coach Dave Foster is one of only eleven participants who have both played and coached in the Shrine Game.

DCHS hires new volleyball coach

The Dodge City High School Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Amy Fleener as the new Head Volleyball coach of the Red Demons – pending Board of Education approval at the next scheduled meeting.

Fleener is a graduate of Lewis High School and Barclay College in Havilland. She currently works in the district at Dodge City Comanche Middle School as
a sixth grade teacher. Amy previously has been the Head Coach at Barclay College, Kinsley High School and Spearville High School. Most recently, she spent the last four seasons as the eighth Grade Head Coach at Comanche Middle School. She has been involved in coaching for over 20 years at various levels ranging from Middle School to High School to Small College and Club Volleyball programs.

“During Amy’s interview, it was obvious her knowledge of the game of volleyball and her experience at all levels speaks volumes of her ability to have success with our current group of student-athletes. One of her most positive assets is her excitement in building the program (7-12) and experience with some of the young players at the middle school and club level. I think that she will buy into the culture we have developed here at DCHS. WPMC official corporate partner of TOC

The Dodge City High School Athletic Department announced today that Western Plains Medical Complex has chosen to continue as the Official Corporate Partner of the Tournament of Champions. The 2016 TOC is the 73rd annual tournament and the fifth year that Western Plains has sponsored the event. Western Plains has extended their partnership with the tournament for another five year period – extending through the 2021 TOC.

The Tournament of Champions is the longest running invitational boys’ basketball tournament west of the Mississippi, and for seventy-three years has showcased the best high school basketball talent in the state of Kansas.

This year’s tournament will also mark the fifth year that games have been played at the United Wireless Arena. The UWA also hosts the SPIAAA league tournament and the 1A Div. 2 KSHSAA State Basketball Tournament.

Dayton Moore confirmed as FCA Speaker

Dodge City High School FCA is pleased to announce that Dayton Moore has accepted an invitation to speak at this year’s TOC-FCA Breakfast. The breakfast has been hosted by FCA since 1981. This year’s breakfast will be held at Dodge City High School beginning at 8:30am. Tickets may be purchased in the DCHS Athletic Office, at the TOC, or the morning of the event at DCHS.

Dayton Moore became the sixth general manager in Royals history on June 8, 2006. Under Moore’s leadership, the Royals built one of the best farm systems in baseball en route to winning the 2015 World Series in the club’s second consecutive trip to the Fall Classic, and first World Series championship since 1985. That was following the club reaching the postseason for the first time in 29 years as they won the 2014 American League championship by setting a Major League record with eight-straight wins in the playoffs.

After the 2014 season, the Royals were selected as the Baseball America “Organization of the Year” for just the second time since the publication started the award in 1982, and Moore was awarded the “Executive of the Year” by Major League Baseball (GIBBY Awards) as well as the Kansas City Sports Commission.

Moore, a native of Wichita, Kansas, was elected to the State of Kansas’ Baseball Hall of Fame and named Kansan of the Year by the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas. Moore was also tabbed Alumnus of the Year by George Mason University. Moore graduated from George Mason University in 1989 with a degree in physical education and health, and later earned his master’s degree in athletic administration from GMU. Before joining the Royals, Moore worked in various capacities in player development for the Atlanta Braves from 1994-2006.

A leader in the Kansas City community, Moore is a regular speaker at numerous community events each year. In 2013, Moore started the “C” You In the Major Leagues Foundation. It was created to support youth baseball, education, families in crisis and faith-based programs and organizations.

He and his wife, Marianne, reside in Leawood, Kan., and have two daughters, Ashley and Avery, and a son, Robert.
