The Dodge City boys cross country team finished first as a team at the Wichita-Bishop Carroll cross country invitational Saturday, Sept. 1.
Javier Marquez led the way for the Red Demons, finishing fourth in a time of 17:40.
Montel Love finished fifth in 17:57, Giovanni Valverde finished 10th in 18:22, Quest Weller finished 11th in 18:23, Jesus Solis finished 14th in 18:28, Israel Rojas finished 25th in 19:02, Ivan Ortiz finished 44th in 19:56, Jair Martinez finished 48th in 20:02 and Alfonso Rodriquez finished 50th in 20:09.
Overall, the Red Demons finished with 44 points, good for first place. Bishop Carroll came in second with 62. Wichita North rounded out the top-3, finishing 3rd with 81 points.
Girls team results
On the girls side, freshman Serenity Larson led the way for the Red Demons varsity squad, finishing 18th in a time of 22:52, followed closely by senior Caroline Williams who finished 19th in a time of 22:55.
Junior Denise Dominguez finished 25th in a time of 23:24. Sophomore Karina Herrera finished 31st in a time of 23:57, with sophomore Mariela Lopez finishing 32nd in a time of 23:59.
Senior Lucy Lozano finished 35th in a time of 24:27, and junior Ely Dorado finished 37 in a time of 24:41. Sophomore Anna Ridgway finished 42nd in a time of 25:06, senior Jaclyn Vargas finished 52nd in a time of 25:43, sophomore Ximena Cervantes finished 53rd in a time of 25:48, senior Ayanna Hensley finished 59th in a time of 26:49, junior Perla Ailon finished 67th in a time of 28:15 and senior Paola Lopez finished 70th in a time of 30:49.

Jim Coffin is a 1966 graduate of Dodge City High School, and is the son of Bob Coffin – a long time Red Demon supporter. Jim’s sister Sherill was a long-time teacher/drill team instructor at Dodge City High School. J-A-G Construction Co was first established in 1962 by Bob Coffin in Dodge City. In 1970, Jim, Bob’s son, joined the company and they decided to add a ready-mix concrete facility to the business. In 1986, Jim took over J-A-G Construction Co from his father and began to operate both companies. In 1993, additional ready-mix concrete plants were added in Liberal, KS and Guymon, OK. In 1998, Jim acquired Dodge City Sand and in 2001, another ready-mix concrete plant was purchased in Hooker, OK. J-A-G Construction Co also owns three portable cement plants.
Glen Piper is a 1957 graduate of Dodge City Senior High School. Glen was the first ever High School All-American at DCHS. He was an outstanding basketball and baseball player who still holds the several school records in basketball at DCHS. He signed directly out of high school and played collegiately at the University of Colorado, after making an initial commitment to Kansas University and Head Coach, Phog Allen. Piper signed with Colorado after being promised the opportunity to play both baseball and basketball for the Buffaloes. KU Coach Allen was only interested in Piper as a basketball player. He finished his college career as a Small College All-American at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, where he graduated with a degree in Education.
