Demon Soccer to Face North in Quarters

The Dodge City High School soccer program will host the first round of the 6A KSHSAA State Soccer Tournament on Tuesday at Memorial Stadium as they host Wichita North.

The Red Demons (17-0-1) are the #2 seed in the West.
Wichita North (16-1-1) is the #3 seed, with their only loss coming at the hands of Dodge City.
The winner advances to the Final Four on Friday & Saturday in Olathe.
The Red Demons are 19-0 in home playoff games in the Saul Hernandez era, and have won 7 straight Regional Titles. Dodge City is attempting to reach their 3rd straight Final Four.
The combined record of the West half of the State bracket is a combined: 65-2-4.

Red Demon Soccer to Host Regional

The Dodge City High School soccer program will host the first round of the 6A KSHSAA Soccer Regionals on Tuesday at Memorial Stadium as they look to defend their 2020 State Title.

The Red Demons (15-0-1) are the #2 seed in the West behind #1 Washburn Rural (15-0).
Wichita West (6-10) defeated Wichita South (6-2) on Monday in a play-in game.
With a win on Tuesday night the Red Demons would host Topeka High (9-6-2) on Thursday night at Memorial Stadium (6:00pm) for the Regional Championship.
The Red Demons are 17-0 in home playoff games in the Saul Hernandez era.
The Red Demons have won 7 of the past 8 WAC Titles, and 6 straight Regional Titles.

Demons Host Blazers in Playoffs

The Dodge City High School football program will host the Gardner Edgerton Blazers on Friday Night at Memorial Stadium in the First Round of the KSHSAA 6A State Football Playoffs.

This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
Friday Night will be the 1031st game in Red Demon Football History. The Red Demons have played 71 different teams, with Gardner Edgerton being the newest addition to the list.
The winner of Friday Night’s game will likely be travelling to #2 Manhattan the following week.
Gardner Edgerton basketball played in the 2008 & 2010 TOC. The 2010 Blazer team, starring Bubba Starling, defeated the Red Demons in the semifinals before losing to Wichita Heights and Perry Ellis in the Championship game at the Dodge City Civic Center.

Advance tickets are $6 each and are for the reserved chair back seats – while they last.
Season ticket holders must pick up and pay for their tickets in advance of Friday night’s game.
Passes will NOT be accepted on Friday night.
Walk up tickets will be $6 for adults, $4 for students at the gate on Friday night – and will be general admission.

Mapel Resigns as Girls Golf Coach

After twenty-five years as the head coach of the girls’ golf program at Dodge City High School, Jim Mapel is stepping down from his role as Head Girls golf coach. Mapel will remain on staff as the Head Boys golf coach and Social Studies teacher at DCHS. Coach Mapel has served as a coach at Dodge City High School since 1987.

Coach Mapel was hired by the legendary J.C. Riekenberg in 1997 to guide the Girls Golf program after Riekenberg had hired him four years previously to be the Head Boys Coach. Coach Mapel served as a Cross Country coach prior to taking over the Girls program at DCHS.

He took over the program from his high school Head Coach John Chebultz and promptly won the conference title in his first season.

He guided the Lady Demons to a total of five WAC Championships (1997, 2001, 2002, 2007 and 2008) over his 25 years as the head coach. During his tenure his girls’ golf teams qualified for the KSHSAA State Tournament as a team or individually in all 25 seasons.

Coach Mapel’s tenure with the Girls Program was highlighted by the 2001 6A-5A State Championship, as well as finishing as the 2002 6-5A State Runner-up. The following year Mapel coached the individual champion as well – Tara Goedeken. Most recently, Coach Mapel has coached back-to- back Regional Championship teams. This past season, his team qualified for the 6A State Tournament and had a Top 10 finish from Ashlyn Armstrong (9th).

The search for a new Girls Head Coach will begin immediately. The DCHS Athletic Department will place a priority on hiring a certified teacher who has the necessary expertise and experience to lead the Lady Demon golf program.

The DCHS Athletic Department appreciates everything Coach Mapel has done for female golfers over the past 25 years. He will leave a lasting impact on the game of golf at DCHS and across the state. Jim serves on the Kansas Golf Coaches Advisory Board (which was instrumental in changing the format of the State Tournament to a 2-day tournament), as well as his involvement in Kansas Junior Golf Association. We appreciate his time, effort, and dedication to the student-athletes while leading the DCHS Girls golf program.”

Red Demons to Host Southeast

The Dodge City High School football program will host the Wichita Southeast Buffaloes this Friday night at Memorial Stadium to conclude the regular season.

This will be the 20th meeting all-time between the two schools, dating back to the 1963 season.
Dodge City leads the series 15-4, with the teams playing five times in the KSHSAA playoffs.
With a win on Friday night the Red Demons would secure a first round home playoff game next Friday night (Oct. 29) at Memorial Stadium.
The Red Demons are currently #7 in the 6A West Region. The top 8 teams host in round one.
Friday Night will be Senior Recognition (pregame) for the Red Demons.
The WAC Champion Red Demon Soccer program will be recognized at halftime.
