Cowboy Capital Classic to open season

Dodge City High School and Gibson’s Pharmacy are bringing basketball back to the Civic Center with the Cowboy Capital Classic to kick-off the 2021-22 basketball season! This one-day event will be played at the historic Dodge City Civic Center in conjunction with the Grand Opening of the new USD 443 Administrative Complex.

The event will be held on Friday, December 3, and will feature both boys and girls programs, with sub-varsity games played at Dodge City High School.

Game Schedule – Friday, December 3, 2021

Game 1: McPherson vs Dodge City (GIRLS) – 6:30p

Game 2: McPherson vs Dodge City (BOYS) – 8:00p

All tickets will be general admission and sold at the Civic Center the day of the game. Passes will be accepted. Sub-varsity games played at DCHS will be free of charge and will not require a ticket.

The USD 443 Administrative Complex will be open from 5p-7p for community members to tour the facility. The new complex is located to the north of the Civic Center (2112 First Avenue).

FCA Breakfast to Feature Tress Way

Dodge City High School FCA and the Tournament of Champions are excited to announce Tress Way as the 41st Annual FCA Breakfast for the 79th Annual TOC.

Way is known by many as the NFC Pro Bowl Punter for the Washington Football Team. He is also one of the most popular players in Washington and has been the focus of NFL Films on two separate occasions.

A graduate of Tulsa (OK) Union High School, Way kicked collegiately at the University of Oklahoma for Hall of Fame Coach Bob Stoops. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2012 from OU. However, Way would rather talk about his faith and family than anything else.

In his own words: “I have a deep, driving desire each day where I can’t wait to wake up in the morning and read my Bible. I need God! The first prayer I pray before I start my quiet time is, “God, teach me to be the man, the husband, the father You want me to be,” in that order. If I can be the man God wants me to be, I can then be husband God wants me to be, and the father I need to be to my children. Yes, I’ve beenwalking with God now for 13 years but at 31 years old, I know I need God now more than I have ever have. And not only do I need Him more, I want Him more. I want my life to look the way He wants it to look. That is my greatest desire, what I pray for, and ultimately, what I can’t wait to see unfold.”

In 2013, Way married Brianna Turang, a former softball and soccer player at the University of Oklahoma. They have three year old twins, Beau and Harper, and one year old Hadley.

41st Annual FCA Breakfast Featuring Tress Way

The Boothill FCA exists solely to help provide an inspirational program and breakfast for the teams competing in the Tournament of Champions. For 40 years, the FCA Breakfast has been part of the tradition of the TOC. This organization relies on donations from local businesses and individuals to keep the breakfast free of charge for the teams competing in the tournament each year. Anyone interested in donating to the Boothill FCA can contact Jay Gifford at Dodge City High School for details. FCA is a EFCA accredited ministry.

Demon Soccer to Face North in Quarters

The Dodge City High School soccer program will host the first round of the 6A KSHSAA State Soccer Tournament on Tuesday at Memorial Stadium as they host Wichita North.

The Red Demons (17-0-1) are the #2 seed in the West.
Wichita North (16-1-1) is the #3 seed, with their only loss coming at the hands of Dodge City.
The winner advances to the Final Four on Friday & Saturday in Olathe.
The Red Demons are 19-0 in home playoff games in the Saul Hernandez era, and have won 7 straight Regional Titles. Dodge City is attempting to reach their 3rd straight Final Four.
The combined record of the West half of the State bracket is a combined: 65-2-4.

Red Demon Soccer to Host Regional

The Dodge City High School soccer program will host the first round of the 6A KSHSAA Soccer Regionals on Tuesday at Memorial Stadium as they look to defend their 2020 State Title.

The Red Demons (15-0-1) are the #2 seed in the West behind #1 Washburn Rural (15-0).
Wichita West (6-10) defeated Wichita South (6-2) on Monday in a play-in game.
With a win on Tuesday night the Red Demons would host Topeka High (9-6-2) on Thursday night at Memorial Stadium (6:00pm) for the Regional Championship.
The Red Demons are 17-0 in home playoff games in the Saul Hernandez era.
The Red Demons have won 7 of the past 8 WAC Titles, and 6 straight Regional Titles.

Demons Host Blazers in Playoffs

The Dodge City High School football program will host the Gardner Edgerton Blazers on Friday Night at Memorial Stadium in the First Round of the KSHSAA 6A State Football Playoffs.

This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
Friday Night will be the 1031st game in Red Demon Football History. The Red Demons have played 71 different teams, with Gardner Edgerton being the newest addition to the list.
The winner of Friday Night’s game will likely be travelling to #2 Manhattan the following week.
Gardner Edgerton basketball played in the 2008 & 2010 TOC. The 2010 Blazer team, starring Bubba Starling, defeated the Red Demons in the semifinals before losing to Wichita Heights and Perry Ellis in the Championship game at the Dodge City Civic Center.
RESERVED TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW FOR FRIDAY NIGHT IN THE DCHS ATHLETIC OFFICE!

Advance tickets are $6 each and are for the reserved chair back seats – while they last.
Season ticket holders must pick up and pay for their tickets in advance of Friday night’s game.
Passes will NOT be accepted on Friday night.
Walk up tickets will be $6 for adults, $4 for students at the gate on Friday night – and will be general admission.
