Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles take the win against Goddard Eisenhower Tigers.

In the first game of the semifinals of TOC, the Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles faced off against the Goddard Eisenhower Tigers. Nick Hogan led the Tigers with a game high 23 points. Leading the Golden Eagles was Carter Reid with a score of 22 points, along with Alex Littlejohn with 18 points.

At the end of the first quarter, Goddard Eisenhower had the lead against Bishop Carroll by a score of 12-11. After the first quarter, Bishop Carroll took control of the game, heading into the half with a 27-22 lead. The Golden Eagles proceeded to outscore the Tigers 37-23 in the second half, with Bishop Carroll winning easily with a score of 64-45. Goddard Eisenhower allowed 21 points off of turnovers and was outscored 30-16 in the paint by the Golden Eagles.

Bishop Carroll will advance to play in the Championship Game against Junction City Saturday, Jan. 23, at 3 pm. Goddard Eisenhower will play for third place against Dodge City at 1 pm on Saturday.

Demons fall short to Bluejays in TOC Semifinals

The Dodge City Demons played the Junction City Bluejays in the second semifinal game on Thursday night at the DCHS Fieldhouse.

Junior Aidan Sowers got the Demons going with a three point shot from the left side of the arc – his first of two 3-pointers for the game. The Red Demons trailed at the half by a score of Dodge City 16 and Junction City 21.

Junior Cooper Scheck got the second half going with a three point shot at the top of the key drawing Dodge City within two points. Dodge City came back strong in the fourth quarter tying the game to 40 with five minutes left before the Bluejays went on a (7-0) run to push the game out of reach. Matt Friess hit a three at the buzzer, but the Demons fell short by a final score of 52 – 48.

Matt Friess and Dawson Taylor led the team in points with 13 and 12, respectively. This puts the Red Demons at 6-4 on the season. The Demons will face Goddard Eisenhower on Saturday at 1:00pm for third place.

Demons Dominate DC Invitational

The Red Demon Wrestling team competed at the DC Invitational Saturday, Jan. 9.

The Demons went against the Junction City Tigers and won with a score of 45-27, taking them onto the next match versus the Pratt Greenbacks and winning with a score of 57-15. Dodge City beat the Manhattan Indians 55-15 and with a knock-off against the No.1 All Class Goddard Eagles with a score of 45-35.

Damian Mendez, junior, reaches his one hundredth career win by beating another state champ.

The Lady Demons take the first place title. Winning first place overall with 169 points, the Demons move onto their next match against the Hays Indians Jan. 12, at 6 pm at Hays High School.

Red Demons defeat the Eagles

On Friday, Jan. 8, Dodge City Red Demon Boys Basketball went head to head against the Colby Eagles at the Fieldhouse with a winning score of 69-47. Ten different players scored throughout the night for the Demons with senior, Matt Friess leading with 18 points and sophomore Cooper Loll (#2) and junior Cooper Scheck (#11) both right behind him, scoring 12 points each.

Through the first and second quarters, the teams were closely matched at 15-14 to end the first and tied up 27-27 at the half. The Demons quickly took control of the game, with Cooper Scheck scoring a three-point shot within the third quarter’s first 30 seconds. With 16 points scored in the second half, the Red Demons ended with a final score of 69-47.

“Our performance Friday night was great. Energy played a big part in the game as well as all of our games. Without any fans, energy is all we have, and it is good enough to motivate our guys to play to the best of our abilities,” said Friess. The boys’ next game will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, against the Guymon Tigers at Guymon High School.

Lady Demons remain undefeated against Colby

The Lady Demons played at home against the Colby Eagles on Jan. 8, beating them 62-37. Sophomore Becca Unruh scored a three-point shot to lead off the game. The Lady Demons were up at the half with a score of 33 – 14. Kisa Unruh started the second half strong with a three from the top of the key; she ended up with 17 points and four assists on the day. Sophomore Becca Unruh had eight points, and three assists, and senior Lauren Gleason had 12 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

Our team had a great attitude and always made the extra pass all throughout the game. Overall I was really happy with the game,” said Gleason. The Lady Demons are ranked No. 8 with a record of 6-0 on the season. “I’m looking forward to the end of the season strong. We are a talented group of girls who have been working for this season. We want to do the best we can and hope to get the state ring and go undefeated,” said Becca Unruh.
