Dodge City High School will host the 75th annual Tournament of Champions sponsored by Western Plains Medical Complex on January 18, 19 & 20. The tournament will be hosted at the United Wireless Arena. Participating teams are Dodge City (6A), Wichita East (6A), Manhattan (6A), Leavenworth (6A), Wichita Heights (5A), Maize (5A), Bishop Meige (4A), & Hays (4A).
Along with a competitive field of basketball teams, numerous groups will perform between games and at the half times. Those participating in this year’s T.O.C. are: Dodge City High School Drill Team, Dodge City Middle School Drill Team, Comanche Middle School Drill Team, Dodge City High School Cheerleaders, Dodge City High School Pep Band and The Pride of Southwest Kansas. Thursday evening will be the recognition of the All-Academic All-Tournament team and the 2018 TOC Committee. On Friday night, the cheerleaders participating in the tournament will perform a combined routine between games on Friday night – along with recognition of all current and former TOC girls over the past 60 years of the tournament.
Reserved seat tickets for the tournament are on sale now at the United Wireless Arena box office. Reserved seats are available for all three days. The general admission prices are $7/day. Tickets are also available online at ticketmaster.com – search “United Wireless Arena”.
The TOC/FCA Event, sponsored by the Dodge City Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, will be held at 10PM on Friday night at Dodge City High School. This year’s event will be The Maze, featuring illusionist Jim Munroe. The event is open to the general public. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased in the DCHS Athletic Office or at the Tournament.
An awards ceremony will follow the championship game on Saturday evening. The awards will include; Most Inspirational Player, Team Sportsmanship, Individual Sportsmanship, Coaches Sportsmanship, All-Academic Team for basketball players & cheerleaders, Individual All Tournament Basketball team and Cheerleaders, and the Tournament Trophy presentations.
