The Red Demon girls swim team finished in third place on Monday at a swim meet in Great Bend behind Hutchinson Central Christian School and Salina Sacred Heart High School. Dodge City was led by a first place finish in the 200-yard free relay with Hannah Sowers, Gabby Medoza, Hayden Sanchez and Payton Magouirk. In addition to that, the 200-yard medley relay team including Harvey, Sanchez, Ali Phelps and Abby Harding finished third and the 400-yard free relay team featuring Magouirk, Mendoza, Harvey and Sowers finished third. Individually Sanchez finished second in the 200-yard individual medley and second in the 100-yard fly, Sowers finished second in the 100-yard free, Harvey finished third in the 100-yard backstroke and Phelps finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke. The team will be back in action on April 11th at Garden City.
Sophomore right fielder Jessica Olivarez was named a MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Player of the Week on Monday representing the south-central region. Olivarez had a big start to her season, hitting .700 in Dodge City’s first four games off the season with two doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs.
“I’m very proud of her,” head coach Ashley Podschun said. “I’m very pleased with her. She’s been doing a great job in the outfield as well. She’s been doing what she needed to do and when I announced it to the team today, she was a little bashful but I think everyone was pretty proud of her.”
The Lady Demons had their triangle on Tuesday postponed but they will hopefully be back on the diamond on Thursday at Hays.
